Our Eye Doctor

Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really functions, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.

Dr Whetstone carefully explains the results of your eye examination, your options and solutions to your eye care needs in easy to comprehend language. Maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share you health information. This communication could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.◦ With 20 years of experience in SW Florida, should your diagnoses requires a specialist, you can feel confident that Dr. Whetstone will be able to refer you to the best possible match to meet your needs.

Meet our doctor:

Dr. Ray C. Whetstone, O.D.

Board Certified Optometric Physician

Dr. Ray C. Whetstone is originally from western Pennsylvania. He graduated with honors from Penn State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Biology. He completed his medical education at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, again graduating with honors.

While a student he was a teaching assistant in both contact lenses and primary care optometry. His clinical evalations were always the highest in his class.

After five years of cold New England weather, he moved to Florida for a much warmer climate. In the subsequent years he practiced medicine in a variety of settings—in charge of clinical and professional services with numerous ophthalmology practices. In these medical settings he honed his skills as a clinician, as well as management of business aspects.

Dr. Ray, as he prefers to be addressed, is an expert in fitting challenging contact lens patients. Having worn contact lenses since the age of 15, he fully appreciates the freedom afforded with contacts and thus strives to provide his patients with the same enjoyment of not being hampered by eyeglasses.

When not practicing medicine, he is devoted to returning to mankind the blessing which have been bestowed on him. He volunteers annually for  medical mission trips around the globe and within the state of Florida.

His other passions are practicing yoga and raising orchids. Both are extremely rewarding pastimes. He is always happy to speak with service organizations about the rewarding experiences of traveling the globe to ensure all can see!
